On the 22nd, 23rd and 29th December 2011, visitors will be welcomed at the Acropolis Museum with afternoon music performances and Christmas treats.

Music performances

On Thursday 22 December at 5 p.m., from the balcony of the second floor that overlooks the Archaic Gallery, will be presented award winning musical compositions of Marios Strofalis, the “European Taxim”, which constitutes a nostalgic tour in cultural ports of the people of southern Europe.  

Instrumentals: Marios Strofalis (piano), Vangelis Vergotis (accordion), Alfred Shtuni (violin) and Alexander Botinis (cello).

On Friday 23 December at 5 p.m., the Athens Municipality Symphonic Orchestra will present excerpts from the opera “Carmen” of Georges Bizet (Baritone: Nick Karagkiaouris), the intro of the operetta “The Bat” by Johann Strauss (Soprano: Vasia Zacharopoulou), the intro of the “Magic flute” and a duet from the opera “Don Giovanni” by W.A. Mozart and excerpts from the ballet “The Nutcracker” by P.I. Tchaikovsky, in the ground floor lobby of the Museum in view of the Hekatompedos pediment.

On Thursday 29 December at 5 p.m., the Audio String Quartet will present classical, romantic and neoromantic music, on the balcony of the second floor overlooking the Archaic Gallery.

Instrumentals: Alfred Shtuni (violin), Laertes Kokolanis (violin), George Gaitanos (viola) and Ria Anastasiou (cello).

Christmas treats

The Museum restaurant will remain open every Friday until midnight. Museum visitors are able to enjoy beautiful night views of the Acropolis and selected traditional Greek dishes.

On Christmas and New Year’s Eve (24 and 31 December) the Museum will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Museum will remain closed on 25 and 26 December 2011 and on 1 January 2012.
